We rarely admit it, but most of us do have delusions of grandeur and we often fantasize about ourselves, singing, dancing, or walking down the runway with long luscious locks that flow like a lion’s mane, much to everyone else’s envy. Real life however, can be quite a letdown, with hair fall and hair loss showing an earlier onset today among vast numbers in India.
Methi Seeds & Peppermint Oil For Hair Loss
Although premature hair loss may depend on a variety of factors, it’s still something that we can address in many cases, without having to resort to expensive or invasive cosmetic procedures like hair grafting or weaving. According to some natural health enthusiasts, methi seeds and peppermint oil can work like a charm at promoting hair growth and restricting hair loss, but is there any scientific basis to these claims?
Let’s take a closer look at both ingredients.
“A study published in the journal Toxicological Research reported that peppermint oil promotes hair growth & increases follicle strength & quality”
The primary ingredient in peppermint oil that lends it most of its distinctive qualities is menthol. Studies have shown that peppermint oil exercises an anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and anti-fungal effect, making it one of the best oils to treat a variety of hair and scalp conditions. The oil is also known to display anti allergenic properties, reducing the incidence of scalp conditions like dandruff that can exacerbate hair loss.
According to a study published in the journal Toxicological Research, menthol is the most effective penetration enhancer, which is why it is so widely used in various food and cosmetic products. They also reported that peppermint oil promotes hair growth and increases follicle strength and quality.
“Rich in lecithin & nicotinic acid, methi seeds help to strengthen hair follicles & roots by improving cellular energy conversion & scalp blood circulation”
Methi or fenugreek seeds contain an organic fatty substance called lecithin, which plays an important cellular growth throughout the body, most notably in hair growth. When using methi seeds for hair loss, this substance helps to strengthen the follicle roots, restricting hair fall.
Methi seeds also contain essential proteins and nicotinic acid, which is a water-soluble vitamin of the B complex group. These nutrients are vital for healthy hair growth because of their role in the conversion of energy at a cellular level and because they trigger dilation of blood vessels, increasing blood flow and circulation to the scalp.
While both ingredients are obviously beneficial for hair growth, they work best together, helping treat common scalp diseases, while also improving hair strength and quality. Of course, you’ll need to keep using the concoction for a few weeks at least for any visible results. You can prepare the hair mask at home by simply crushing a handful of the seeds and mixing with peppermint oil to get a smooth paste. Allow it to remain on your hair for at least 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing with a gentle shampoo.
